The focus of Couples Counselling is to learn skills to work on relationship problems, including: effective ways of communication listening skills anger management and acceptance of differences.
The counselling session provides a safe place to communicate openly and honestly, taking responsibility for our own feelings and behaviour, rather than blaming our partner. It is recommended that issues brought up in the session remain private between the couple. Counselling may involve talking about family history and important life events. The couples agree to set goals, and to use the session to work towards these goals together and between sessions. This is a space to help repair damage to the relationship, to promote respectful dialogue and reasonable boundaries.
