My name is Olive, I'm originally from West Cork, and I've been living in Mallow, North Cork for the last 12+ years.
I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I have a BSc (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy, and a Professional Certificate in Couples Counselling. I’m a Fully Accredited Member of IACP (Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy). My counselling style is integrative, using different therapies, such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Person-Centred Therapy.
I believe Counselling / Psychotherapy is a very empowering journey to discover our True Self. We can be very self-critical with ourselves, through negative self-talk, guilt and criticism. My goal is to help my client work through their issues, and reach a place of self-acceptance, and contentment. My Therapeutic Approach is adapted to each individual person, as everyone has different life experiences, and reacts differently to life’s events. I work with what best suits the person in front of me, and their presenting issues. While I can’t make the journey for you, I can walk alongside you, and support you as you make changes, and move towards your True Self.
WHAT IS COUNSELLING Counselling is a professional helping relationship, involving the therapist and the client working together. Counselling gives someone the space to talk, hence it is often described as a talking therapy.
Therapists do not give advice. They help the client work through the problem themselves.
Listening is a key skill in counselling as clients may not get this from other people in their lives. But therapists are also helping clients process their thoughts, access their emotions, collaborating on problem-solving and offering a third perspective.
Counselling can benefit everyone as we learn to access and process our emotions on a deeper level.
Confidentiality is a big part of counselling and therapists will keep anything said to them private. However, there are a few exceptional circumstances where a therapist may need to break confidentiality.
